1. Business

1.1. Definition of business

According to Article 4.21 of the Law on Enterprises 2020, “business” or “business operation” means continuous execution of one, some, or all stages, including investment, manufacturing, sale, or provision of services on the market for profit.

Therefore, business is the investment, production, and supply of goods to make a profit without completing all stages in the business process. Thus, to distinguish business activities from other activities based on generating profits.

1.2. Types of business

• Business services: 
  • Consulting: financial, legal, etc.
  • Finance: banking, stocks, insurance, etc.
  • Supply chain and distribution: for logistics businesses, etc.

• Manufacturing business: 
  For enterprises that manufacture products and goods and deliver products and goods to distributors or sell directly to customers. For example, enterprises that manufacture machine components, such as Honda, Yamaha, Toyota, etc., or businesses that produce fashion products, such as Uniqlo, H&m, Zara, etc. 

• Retail business: 
  Retail is the most popular type of business in the market because it mainly aims at individual consumers and buys and sells products in small quantities. This is the common type found in supermarkets, grocery stores, etc.

2. Investment

2.1. Definition of investment

According to Article 3.8 of the Law on Investment 2020, “business investment” means an investor investing capital to do business.

Thus, investment is using financial, material, labor, etc., resources to carry out business activities.

2.2. Types of investments

According to Article 21 of the Law on Investment 2020, there are 5 types of investment as follows: 

• Investment in establishment of a business organization.
• Investment in the form of capital contribution or purchase of shares or stakes.
• Execution of an investment project.
• Investment in the form of a business cooperation contract.
• New forms of investment and types of business organizations prescribed by the Government’s regulations.
